before and after back deck reveal

With the warmer months finally here there is nothing better then enjoying your outdoor spaces! I’m excited to be working with Hauser Furniture on this post. I have wanted to give our front porch a welcoming update and also create a more cozy atmosphere on our back deck.

One of the easiest ways to update your entry to not only be more welcoming for guests, but also your family is accessories and paint. I’m excited to share not only the before and after of our front porch, but also the key pieces we added to our back deck to make it even more functional.

Our porch was originally treated lumber but I have been wanting to paint it white to match the rest of the house for awhile. This will let it blend into the rest of the house exterior and really let the stone beside the doors and our porch decor shine. I used Sherwin Williams Porch Floor Paint in “Extra White”. It created the perfect backdrop to highlight some beautiful pieces from Hauser Furniture.

These 100% recyclable planters are my new favourite thing. They have the look of concrete, are UV, heat and break resistant and are light weight and easy to move. I have two of the larger size flanking our doors and the medium size to the left. Statement planters are such a simple way to bring interest, dimension and texture to your porch. I also love using them because they are extremely functional while looking good!

Your entry is the first thing you and your guests see- make it count!

One of the best ways to quickly cozy up any entryway is to add a great welcome rug and mat combo. Be sure to pick something that fits the size of your door. You don’t want anything too tiny looking! For a standard door I always recommend a 3×5 rug paired with a 2×3 mat over top. However, where I have a double door I needed to go larger so it looked proportionate. I have this 4×6 rug from Hauser Furniture and paired it with the largest size of this welcome mat.

To finish off the porch I wanted to add an alternative light source that would create a welcoming ambience and also bring in a new shape and texture. These Solar Lanterns are so stunning and I love how you don’t need to fuss with batteries. The black and wood is a stunning combination and ties in perfectly with our black exterior doors.

It doesn’t take much to transform a space.

I absolutely love how this whole look came together. Doing something as simple as painting, adding in a new rug, planters and lanterns and it completely updated our front porch. It feels so much more welcoming now. Even though I didn’t make crazy changes you can see how it doesn’t take a lot to spruce up your entry and make it have an impact.

Let’s move into the back yard now! Our back deck is a great size and I have wanted to create a designated dining area as we already have a lounge section. Creating a place where we could entertain and also have summers meals out here with the kids. I really wanted a chair that would not only be comfortable for dining, but also to just linger and hang out in. As soon as I saw this Caledon grey and wood chair I knew they would be perfect for our space. Not only are they insanely comfortable but they look beautiful and the quality is top notch.

I like to keep accents to a minimum in our outdoor space to really let the pieces I do choose shine.

I love the woven details, it really brings in such a great texture and they dry very quickly if it starts to drizzle out which is great. I paired them with a round table we already had and I love the combination. This is now one of my favourite spots outside to sit and have a coffee while the kids are playing in the yard. It’s also been awesome for extra seats when we have company over.

To finish off our back deck space we added this amazing fireable from Hauser and I can’t even handle how much we love it! I love how easy it is to light and use where it’s propane. The tank is hidden in the compartment underneath so you don’t see it. This creates a clean, airy feel to the table and it doesn’t feel like a heavy piece of furniture in your space. The grey top and white base ties in perfectly with our other decor and I love how it looks like concrete.

This fireable was also incredibly easy to assemble- all we had to do was put the lava rocks in the centre and then lay the decorative wood on top. My kind of assembly- ha!

It creates the most dreamy atmosphere when it’s dusk and starting to get dark and I know we will enjoy it for many years to come.
