Well it’s the start of a new week and I am excited to share some recent changes to our main level family room with you all. If you have been following along over on my Instagram (@houseofhire) then you have already seen these two pieces but guys, I am so in love with the latest additions! The most exciting thing about our new sofa and ottoman is that I custom designed them both in partnership with Kavuus Furniture which is a Canadian furniture company located in Vancouver. They have a great selection of ready made pieces on their website and then they also offer custom services which is what we did! I love supporting Canadian brands and designing these two pieces was such a smooth, fun experience.
We are calling this sofa the “Loren” and it is seriously like a dream you guys, a dream! I really wanted a sofa that was long enough for all 5 of us to hangout on and watch movies and something that was nice and deep to really curl up on. I love a good deep sofa, they feel so luxurious. Paired with the single long base bench cushion (hello no more kids snacks falling between the cushions) all the cushions are wrapped in down so you basically sit down and never want to get up again. Totally a good problem to have when it’s the sofa in your main hangout room. A slightly higher back was really important to me so that the back cushions didn’t flop over and that you got really good back support. Paired with walnut legs and slim arms that are just the right depth to rest on and tall enough to lean against this sofa is in my opinion, perfect 🙂
As I said this is our main area that we hang out as a family so I really wanted a cozy ottoman up here instead of a coffee table. The kids are just too wild right now between wrestle matches and the littlest walking now I wanted needed soft edges for him. Plus it’s perfect to put your feet up on when your on the sofa and want to stretch out a bit. Designing this piece with the Kavuus team was such an enjoyable experience, they really helped bring my vision to life and the quality of these pieces is impeccable. It’s pretty crazy picturing something in your head and then seeing that item come to life.
You all know I am a neutral girl so I really wanted both of these pieces to of course- be neutral! I am loving the soft tones of both of these fabrics and they play really well with our leather chairs that we already have in here. I opted to get both pieces treated with stain guard to help protect the fabric and make clean up easy for those spills that are bound to happen with 3 kids!
Some of these other items I have added to this space is a rattan storage cabinet which has been so functional for housing a lot of my styling supplies and extras that I use for my design work. It’s been really nice having an area where I can keep all of that together so I am not constantly searching for different items when I need them! I also added this great oversized art print from Minted and I just adore this peaceful, neutral scene. Where we have the built-ins on the other side of the room filled with smaller objects I wanted to counteract that with a really oversized piece and this art nails it.
I am also still so in love with our Loloi Layla Ocean & Rust rug, it brings in the perfect amount of warmth and I am loving how it pairs with the new sofa and ottoman. I hope you guys love these new pieces as much as I do!
