Basement Renovation Design Plan Part 1 Family Room

Happy Monday lovely blog readers! Today I am sharing how to design your basement with some simple steps along with my tips to help bring your design to the next level! I couldn’t be more excited to give you all the first look at the design of one of the spaces in the basement! Planning a renovation can be exciting and overwhelming so I have been so grateful to be partnered with my favourite home building supply store, Kent! Their install team has helped me tremendously with the planing and execution of this renovation and it has been such a relief knowing they have the best people for the job so that I don’t have to worry about it.

I have been dying to share the design plans for this space with you all, living in a two story with 3 boys has gotten more chaotic as they have gotten older so adding a fully functional basement is really going to be such game changer for us!! I really wanted this level of our home to function well for everyone in the family and I couldn’t be more thrilled with how things are coming together. Today I am going to be sharing all the plans for the family/rumpus room, the fixed finishes and also the design details. I wanted this to be a space that we could all cozy up and watch a movie as a family, a spot that my husband could have some friends over to watch the game and just an area that was relaxing.

One of my main mantras as an interior decorator is that design is in the details! Having a strong foundation to build upon is so important and makes all the difference in your final result. Drywall that is taped and mudded well so that no seams are visible, flooring that runs perfectly straight, trim that is installed correctly with precise cuts, these are all the elements that lay the groundwork for a beautiful finished product. One of the many reasons I love working with Kent’s install team is that they guarantee their work and have sourced out the most qualified tradesmen to do the job. As a busy momma as well as running my own business this is such a weight lifted off my shoulders. If you want more information about their install team clickhere.

I was so excited to head to my local store and pick out all of the finishes that would really make our space pop. From barn doors, to shiplap they have everything you need to create the home of your dreams and I can not wait to see everything come together. I have all of the items that I am using in my space linked below for easy shopping or if you prefer to shop in store I have listed the SKUS of all the products as well.

Next let’s talk about phase 2 of the design which is the furniture and decor! I took a few more risks in this space starting with a black accent wall..say whaaa?! Yep, that’s right, I am doing a black shiplap accent wall guys and I am high-fiving myself for it!! I am also adding some punches of colour to make it feel different from our family room upstairs. I love all things terracotta right now and when I saw this rug I knew it was the perfect colour scheme to design the whole space around. I can not WAIT to start putting this room together and I will be sure to share sneak peaks along the way over on my Instagram account @houseofhire. Everything I am using is linked below 🙂
